Even those of us who feel like we have an abundance of empathy need reminders to exercise it now and again. I know I get lazy.

Of course! We all slack off from time to time, especially when our own lives are in chaos. It's hard to focus on anyone else when we're stressed and feel like we're drowning.

It's that 'fill your own cup before you help someone else' kind of deal. What's important is that we try to do better, once we have the capacity.
