The Month of September: Gun Violence
It's here! Fall is finally here!
With it comes the start of the school year in North America, which if you live in Canada is exciting and emotional as parents wave to their children on their first day of school.
And if you live in America, you're praying that your kids make it through the year without being killed or watching their friends die.
American schools are treated like high security prisons in a warzone, and mass shootings of children in school make national headlines with alarming regularity.
We all saw the footage of the shooting in Uvalde, Texas. To call it horrific is an understatement.
So for the month of September we're going to discuss gun violence in the United States and Canada, and why our gun cultures are so radically different even though we share so much in every other respect.
We're going to talk about recent shootings in both countries, about the influence of the National Rifle Association and how legal restrictions on firearms function on either side of the border.
And of course, we'll round out the month by talking about activists who do good work in trying to push for common-sense gun laws in the United States.
Get your pumpkin spice and your number 2 pencils. This month is going to be rough.
Solidarity wins.
